“A radio play by Giles Cooper”. Bath-based psychotic break absurdity with integral Radiophonic effects by Desmond Briscoe. A classic Donald McWhinnie production
Under the Loofah Tree should add to the reputation of a playwright who has written much for radio, Giles Copper. It is a tale of a bathub – which is to say that Edward Thwaite is taking his bath, resisting the please to come out by wife and sonm and pondering meanwhile on his life. All the world’s a bath, Mr Cooper seems to be sating and Styx just the water running out.
So he has contrived a lively last gurgle which encompasses swipes at various valid targets, from super-glib encyclopaedia salesmen to that famous TV programme which in this version might be called ‘This Is Your Bath!’
